Conveniently located on Nicollet Mall, the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis is in the heart of the downtown business, cultural, and shopping districts. AAAR attendees will enjoy the convenience of being able to walk to a wide variety of restaurants and attractions near the hotel. Within the hotel there will be a variety of dining options – all new since 2009 when AAAR last met at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.
As mentioned in the welcome letter from the 2012 chair, Sergey Nizkorodov, the hotel is currently undergoing extensive renovations in the sleeping rooms and public space. The lobby is scheduled to be completely redone and will offer many seating options for both casual conversation and food service.
The “old standbys” will be gone by the time AAAR arrives in October. Taxxi, the casual dining restaurant on the far side of the lobby, and Spike’s Sports Bar will be a memory. Instead, there will be an open dining and espresso area directly opposite the main entrance of the hotel. Updates to this web site will be made as restaurant plans become more specific.
Going out of the hotel, there are many Minneapolis landmarks such as Orchestra Hall, the Walker Arts Center and Sculpture Garden, the Guthrie Theater, the Hennepin Theatre District, and the Minneapolis Riverfront District within walking distance or a very short bus commute. (Buses are quite economical and stop a block or so away from the hotel.)
The Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is a short twelve-mile distance from the hotel. Taxi cabs are reasonably inexpensive, and AAAR attendees have been given a Super Shuttle discount for transport to/from the hotel.
Reduced sleeping room rates have been negotiated for AAAR attendees. The single/double daily sleeping room rate is $199 plus applicable taxes. The cut-off date for sleeping room reservations is Sunday, September 16, 2012.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BLOCK OF ROOMS RESERVED FOR AAAR ATTENDEES IS EXPECTED TO FILL VERY QUICKLY. Once the AAAR block is filled, sleeping rooms will be offered on a space availability basis and will be charges at the prevailing Hyatt Regency Minneapolis rate.
There are a very small number of government-rated rooms available in the AAAR block. You must reserve early to secure one of these reduced rate rooms.
If making your reservation by telephone, identify yourself as attending the AAAR conference. The group attendee code is g-10AS. The group reservation telephone number for the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis is (888) 421-1442. Reservations can also be made online.
The Hyatt Regency Minneapolis accepts all major credit cards including American Express, Diners Club, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ATTENDEES
All AAAR attendees and exhibitors are encouraged to make hotel reservations by utilizing the official AAAR hotel, the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. We recognize that attendees have many options with other area hotels and that you may be looking only at the per-night cost in making your decision. However, we encourage you to take a few minutes to understand the importance of selecting the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis and other factors which go far beyond the per-night rate.
AAAR has a long history of consistently fulfilling the minimum number of room nights to be sold according to our contracts with the hotels. However, with the current economic climate and competition from other properties, it gets more difficult each year to assure that the number of guaranteed contracted sleeping rooms will be used by attendees and exhibitors.
What does this mean to you?
When AAAR is able to maintain a consistent history of hotel rooms sold, it helps the association negotiate the lowest hotel rates possible for future AAAR conferences.
AAAR earns credit for each room night utilized by an attendee or exhibitor when the reservation is at the official conference hotel. This credit helps to offset the meeting room rental costs of the hotel, therefore keeping conference fees low.
The AAAR hotel contract protects you. Booking within the AAAR hotel block gives us the opportunity, if the need does arise, to assist you with any hotel problem you may experience while at the meeting. When you choose other hotels, we have no contacts or leverage to help rectify a problem or inconvenience that you may have encountered.
